  The Clamelle chlamydia service is a private service that is paid for by the customer. It consists of two components:

  • Clamelle Chlamydia Test Kit - tests are bought from the pharmacy, posted off by the customer to the laboratory.
  • Clamelle 500mg Tablets - OTC treatment supplied after a confirmed positive test and if appropriate to the individual (using a customer questionnaire).

  The Clamelle test and treatment can only be sold by pharmacies that are registered on the Clamelle chlamydia service.

• The Clamelle chlamydia service is run jointly by Actavis, the National Pharmacy Association (NPA), which manages registrations, and Acculabs Diagnostics UK Ltd (Acculabs), an accredited private laboratory that carries out the testing, manages the test results and the customer database.

  Diagnosis of chlamydia is confirmed by a laboratory Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAAT) test, a simple urine test which detects the nucleic acid of the C. trachomatis bacterium. A NAAT test is the required gold standard test for detecting chlamydia infection in men and women.
