Clamelle Tablets are a treatment for chlamydia available to buy from pharmacies. They contain Azithromycin (500mg), an effective antibiotic, available without a prescription. Clamelle Tablets are available as part of the Clamelle Chlamydia Testing service. Always read the label.
You can buy Clamelle Tablets from participating pharmacies. It comes as two tablets which are taken together as a single dose and works by killing the bacteria which causes chlamydia. It should be taken as soon as possible after a positive test result.
It can be taken by men and women aged 16 years and over who have tested positive for chlamydia and who have no symptoms. It can also be taken by sexual partners of people who have tested positive, without them needing to take a test, if they have a partner notification slip. However, there are some people who can't take Clamelle, the pharmacist will be able to advise you on this.
You will need to answer some questions at the pharmacy to ensure that it's appropriate for you.
You can also buy Clamelle if you have been given a Clamelle partner notification slip and the phamacist decides you have no symptoms and are eligible. You will need to take your partner notification slip to the pharmacy.

Clamelle Tablets do not work as well if taken at the same time as antacids (indigestion treatments). Please tell your pharmacist if you are taking anything for this. If you do take antacids you should take Clamelle Tablets at least one hour before, or two hours after.
If you take the oral contraceptive pill and you experience vomiting or diarrhoea, you will need to take extra precautions after taking Clamelle Tablets. Ask your pharmacist or GP about this and read your 'pill' patient information leaflet carefully.
